Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Marine Pilot to join the Marine Operations team. Reporting to the Marine Superintendent, this permanent role will be responsible for the safe management of marine operations in pilotage waters.
The position will involve a four weeks on, four weeks off rotational assignment on Barrow Island or in Onslow port.
Key responsibilities include:
Understudy the Marine Pilot / Marine Pilot Loading Master positions and progress through the full suite of Marine Pilot Loading Master specific training
Observe and become proficient at managing all planning and record-keeping paperwork with respect to the safe completion of pilotage tasks, according to regulator and Chevron requirements
Observe and become proficient at managing the safe and efficient use of escort and harbour-assist tugs [up to 4] in the execution of channel transit, swing in turning basin and berthing manoeuvres.
Provide feedback on Tug and Tug Master performance to facilitate continuous improvement and incident/near-miss investigation and lessons learned/best practice recognition
Observe and become proficient at managing the efficient use of the Pilot boat/s and the safe transfer of personnel and equipment to/from vessels under pilotage in accordance with International and Chevron standards
Focus on safety of marine operations, environmental protection and marine operability and reliability
Provide familiarisation/training for newly-assigned Production Staff in jetty operations
Commitment to health, environment and safety and Chevron best practices
Key skills and experience required:
Must have held or qualify for a Australia/New Zealand marine pilot’s license
Valid master class 1 (unlimited) certificate of competency, preferably issued by Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) or be in possession of a valid certificate of recognition from AMSA
Marine security ID card
Full driver’s license
Experience (at least 3 years) as Pilot or Pilot/Harbor Master is preferred
Significant sea going experience (at least 10 years) in a watchkeeping / senior officer role – preferably in the oil and gas industry
Previous experience with oil tanker or LNG carrier marine operations would be considered advantageous but not essential for this role
Proven ability to work well with a variety of cultural backgrounds and professional disciplines
Demonstrated ability to identify and build key relationships that contribute to high-class business results
