Chevron Canada is targeting natural gas and natural gas liquids from the Duvernay shale formation in west-central Alberta, where the company holds approximately 330,000 net acres of exploration leases. Since 2011, the company has progressed multi-well exploration and appraisal programs on these leases and is now entering full-field commercial development.
Chevron Canada Resources is actively seeking a Data Science and Analytics PetroTech to join the Canadian Business Unit (CBU). This position is based in Calgary, Alberta and will report to the Applied Reservoir Management (ARM) Team Supervisor. The function of this role is to partner with the business to identify opportunities to apply analytic tools and data science to achieve business value. This will include requirements gathering, execution and deployment of new functionality; while providing operational support (troubleshooting, enhancements, bug fixes, etc.) for existing solutions. The successful candidate that fills this position will have the skills to design, prototype, create, and support analytical solutions and insights.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
As a member of CBU’s Advanced Analytics Team, work closely with technical functions, asset teams and internal partner organizations (IPO’s) to identify data analytics opportunities, develop business cases, prioritize and execute the data science projects
Identify, acquire and prepare data; use data science and advanced analytics methods to deliver business value; build and deploy automated end to end machine learning solutions; influence product teams through presentation of data-based recommendations
Leverage cloud computing technology and tools (e.g. Azure) in machine learning/deep learning/artificial intelligence
Work with 3rd parties to assess external capabilities to help stay abreast of technologies and load-level efforts
Share lessons learned, adopt external best practices, and be a champion for delivering results in the data science and analytics space for CBU
Bachelor’s Degree in either Engineering, Geology, Geophysics or a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics or other closely related field.
5+ years O&G experience in either subsurface / production operations / drilling & completions.
Proficiency in statistical software, scripting languages and packages (e.g. Python, R, Scala and Julia).
Understanding of database design and ability to read and write basic to intermediate SQL.
Demonstrated experience and success in solving business problems with automated and scalable data science solutions.
Ideal candidate will be product and delivery focused (Git, CI/CD, DevOps). Familiarity with delivering solutions utilizing containers, API end-points and dashboarding tools (PowerBI and Spotfire).
Ability to engage business and technical experts at all organizational levels and assess opportunities to apply data science analytics to improve their workflows and deliver information and insight to support business decisions.
Flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work with multiple deadlines.
Well-developed computer, presentation and written/verbal communication skills.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure or other cloud-based environment is desirable.
Relocation may be considered.
