This is a regional position in the Downstream & Chemicals (DS&C) Law Group based in Dubai, UAE, supporting the International Fuels and Lubricant businesses. The lawyers in the DS&C (Asia Europe, Middle East & Africa) Law Group provide a complete array of legal services in connection with negotiations, advice, drafting, managing, structuring and advocacy on transactions, projects and other matters, working closely with Law management, business leaders, managers and personnel and outside counsel. The position reports to the Managing Counsel, Specialty Products & Joint Ventures.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Work closely and collaboratively with all levels of Chevron’s organization in the Middle East, Singapore and globally to understand Chevron’s and in particular, DS&C’s businesses, their strategies and priorities in order to provide excellent legal support.
Provide timely, pro-active, comprehensive and quality legal advice on a full range of commercial matters, transactions and business activities, including business development opportunities and significant transactions and projects.
Provide timely, pro-active, comprehensive and quality legal advice and support on all regulatory matters, including audits and investigations by, and communications with, government authorities.
Provide legal support to joint venture operations, including strategies for commercial arrangements, business development, regulatory engagements, and contracting.
Draft, review and negotiate complex contracts across a full range of commercial matters, transactions and business activities ensuring Chevron’s interests are protected and advanced and effectively managing and advising on legal and commercial risks.
Provide pro-active and comprehensive general corporate and legal advice in accordance with Chevron’s policies and procedures and applicable laws on employment, policy and public affairs and compliance requirements, including antitrust, anti-corruption, conflict of interest, corporate governance, health, environmental and safety, information protection and international trade.
Regularly train DS&C personnel on Chevron’s corporate policies and compliance requirements and changes in applicable laws and regulations and pro-actively evaluate with business leaders compliance by their teams and knowledge gaps as part of the continuing compliance training program.
Provide timely and comprehensive management and support of litigation affecting the DS&C companies in Middle East & Africa.
Select, instruct and manage outside counsel in compliance with Chevron’s Outside Counsel Guidelines & processes.
Such other legal support work as may be notified by Managing Counsel to Corporate Counsel.
Moderate amounts of travel within the Middle East and abroad.
Required Qualifications & Qualities:
LL.B, Juris Doctorate or other advanced law degree, preferably from a Common Law jurisdiction.
Minimum of 7 years’ PQE.
High ethical standards and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Effective in creating and maintaining high client confidence and satisfaction, communicating clearly, simply and directly with excellent professionalism.
Demonstrated skill and experience in handling legal matters independently, working collaboratively with clients and other in-house counsels.
A highly motivated self-starter capable of working in a fast-paced team environment and collaborating with business clients, other in-house counsels, outside counsel and staff.
Preferred (good to have) qualifications:
Downstream oil and gas industry experience.
Legal work experience in the Middle East.
In-house MNC experience.
Ability to read and write Arabic for business purposes
Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters.
International Considerations:Expatriate assignments will not be considered.
