Chevron Earnings Analyst

This is an earnings analyst role supporting Chevron’s El Segundo Refinery as part of the Refinery Finance Team. This position is responsible for refinery operating expense and non-major capital spend analysis, business performance insights, business planning and forecasting activities, and industry benchmarking efforts to support achievement of Manufacturing and Finance objectives. This role also performs ad hoc analysis and presentation for the Refinery Leadership Team and supports special projects tied to finance and business initiatives. The Earnings Analyst serves as a key interface between local Refinery Finance, Refinery Leadership, Corporate Finance, Operations, and Strategy & Business Planning teams.

Key Considerations:

Interest in future Chevron assignments as part of the broader Finance Function (e.g. Controller’s, Treasury, Finance Shared Services) and/or embedded positions within Upstream, Midstream, Downstream and other support functions.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Drive good decision making through financial analysis and insights

  • Providing timely counsel to business partners, including assessing and proactively identifying issues

  • Partner with the function to identify and implement process improvements, simplifications, and automation opportunities

  • Identify and track value drivers and make recommendations for improvement

  • Improve financial fluency and acumen within the organization

    Required Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Accounting, Finance or Business

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in Finance/Accounting

    Preferred Qualifications :

  • Corporate Finance/Accounting, Public Accounting or Advisory experience

  • Practicing knowledge of Accounting policies/procedures (including US GAAP, general accounting, revenue recovery, inventory accounting, property accounting, fixed assets, tax accounting and affiliate accounting)

  • Demonstrated experience with accounting software (SAP) and Microsoft Office 365, including intermediate and advanced Excel, PowerApps and Power BI. Demonstrated aptitude to quickly learn new tools & system functionality

  • Data analytics experience

  • Ability to analyze financial information, uncover variance drivers, provide thoughtful and insightful analysis, and recommend or determine a course of action.  Ability to relate financial results to operational events and applicable business models

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply concepts and controls to business transactions

  • Strong commitment to maintaining collaborative and cross-functional working relationships with internal partners and external customers

  • Ability to handle multiple job responsibilities, set priorities, maintain a high level of accomplishment, and implement process improvements.  Ability to handle and/or lead projects and influence others to achieve objectives.  Ability to monitor progress and take corrective action if needed to ensure successful and timely delivery or objectives

  • Ability to listen carefully and to use clear, concise oral and written skills to convey facts, present positions and interpret policies.  Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and management, providing clear, logical recommendations in a concise manner to stakeholders

  • Experience in leveraging emerging technologies to enhance business processes
