Chevron Corporation Employee Assistance and WorkLife Services Advisor in El Segundo, California

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Employee Assistance and WorkLife Services Advisor located in El Segundo, California through December 9, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

Chevron’s Employee Assistance WorkLife Services (EAP-WorkLife) program provides seamlessly integrated employee assistance and worklife services to Chevron employees and family members throughout the United States and in many international locations. Chevron’s internal EAP WorkLife program has a rich history of nearly 50 years since the program’s inception, and is designed to enrich and support employees and family members through all aspects of life such as relationship issues, workplace conflict, child and elder care issues, mental health and substance abuse.

Chevron’s Employee Assistance and WorkLife Services advisors provide EAP assessments, referrals and brief counseling for employees and family members in-person and telephonically. Advisors collaborate internally with Chevron’s Health and Medical staff and with mental health providers to determine levels of care and facilitate treatment with providers, when appropriate. A large portion of this position also includes case follow-up, mental health disability management, arranging CISD, facilitating workshops and training programs at Chevron. This program provides organizational, behavioral health expertise to management and HR business partners through consultation and training and is loosely aligned with our safety group in HES.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Provides in-person whenever possible and telephonic assistance (secondarily) to employees and family members dealing with issues such as workplace stress, family issues, mental health and drug and alcohol issues. Employees can present themselves in-person as distressed with an immediate need for assistance. Advisors are often the first point of contact for employees in distress due to either personal (family, marital, relationship) issues, or work-related (job performance) and as such, are knowledgeable about Chevron’s culture and work processes to provide sound advice from a clinical standpoint. Advisor may provide psychological first aid in times of critical incidents and provide clinic expertise during medical, security or emergencies).

  • Counsels employees on-site, work status certification and follow-up with employees for appropriate substance abuse treatment

  • Responds to crisis calls, potential threat of violence cases and critical incident stress debriefings, including critical incidents globally.

  • Provides case management for substance abuse clients and clients off on disability.

  • Provides case follow-up to clients

  • Liaises closely, seamlessly and confidentially with Chevron’s dedicated drug and alcohol coordinator, worklife services advisors, disability management coordinators, health and productivity advisors, and occupational medicine/clinic practitioners.

  • Maintains client case records in the care management database ( EMR)

  • Provides consultative services to management and HR business partners on a variety of behavioral health issues and concerns within the workplace on safety and productivity issues.

  • Provides resources to business units designed to maximize workplace psychological well-being.

  • Provides presentations and training programs to Chevron work groups, supervisors and HR business partners on issues such as stress management, change management, resilience, and work/life effectiveness.

  • Works cross functionally within Chevron’s Health and Medical department, line management, HR business partners, Operational Excellence Champions and Safety Specialists.

  • Provides on-call coverage (24/7) for one week (averaging every 6-8 weeks).

Required Qualifications:

  • Must hold a clinical level license in psychology, counseling or social work (E.g. LPCC, MFT, LCSW).

  • Must have a minimum of a master’s degree.

  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a licensed mental health professional.

  • Demonstrated experience assessing and treating substance abuse problems is required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Demonstrated working proficiency, including use of the Microsoft products (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with unions and represented employees is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other functions, departments and business units.

  • Has at least 3-5 years of employee assistance experience.

A limited amount of travel may be required in this position (estimated at 10-15%).
