Chevron Corporation Onshore Civil / Structural Engineer in El Segundo, California

Oversees the design, construction, installation, and startup of onshore facilities, structures, and infrastructural systems (roads, drainages, etc). Provides engineering support for operations, projects, and integrity management.

Supports larger customers/clients and may lead functional projects under infrequent supervision. Developing a detailed knowledge of the work function.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for all aspects of civil and structural engineering at El Segundo Refinery including initiatives, advisory services, project management and Operations support.

  • Oversees the design, construction, installation, and startup of onshore facilities, structures, and infrastructure systems at El Segundo Refinery (roads, drainages, pipeway structures, foundations, etc).

  • Provides engineering support for operations, projects, and integrity management when unforeseen issues occur or as part of larger ongoing efforts.

  • Supports larger customers/clients and may lead functional Civil and Structural projects under infrequent supervision.

  • Applies technical knowledge of Civil and Structural Engineering on a daily basis – provides advisory services to the Division mechanical engineers on related civil scopes of work, performs calculations and in-house engineering, utilizes modelling software, and provides review of 3rd party engineering firm scopes of work and Issue for Approval/Construction Packages.

  • Writes Engineering Work Orders for civil/structural engineering scope, either individually or utilizing a 3rd party engineering firm.

  • Manages civil/structural related initiatives at El Segundo Refinery, such as implementing mitigations for the CalARP program and plans for Earthquake Preparedness and monitoring.

Required Qualifications:

  • Civil/structural engineering degree (bachelors degree minimum)

  • California Professional Engineer license (or be on track to obtain one within the next 12 months)

  • At least 3 years of related experience in an industrial operations setting, more is welcomed

  • Technical proficiency - fluency in the application and use of civil & structural engineering codes, standards and associated calculations (especially around seismic design)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Civil/structural engineering.

  • Design/modeling software experience (STAAD Pro & CAD).

  • Emphasis of experience in a seismic zone and associated structures engineering - more experience is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage interfaces with multiple stakeholders and across various workgroups to effectively progress projects and resolve issues of conflict.

  • Proven aptitude to organize, prioritize and deliver enterprise driven processes.

  • Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching of less experienced personnel.

  • Proven strong oral and written communication skills - Ability to make effective presentations to a wide range audience including management, technical, and non-technical levels.

  • Align & Inspire - Prioritize & take ownership of work. Communicate progress. Listen to understand intent & needs. Adjust communication for audience.
