Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Big Data and Data Science Architect located in Houston, TX through December 13th, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

Enterprise Architect partners with business owners and service line owners to set vision and build technologies to support the enterprise. The focus is on providing foundational technologies/capabilities that accelerate product development across Chevron.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Establishes strategic direction and actionable technology strategy to guide technology investments within the Big Data and Data Science service line.

  • Designs technical architecture at the Enterprise level.

  • Defines and evolves technical guard rails within the area of responsibility.

  • Defines Technology and Architecture standards at an enterprise level.

  • Works with product and platform teams to build out roadmap of reusable foundational capabilities.

  • Collaborates with Platform Architects to ensure enterprise architecture continuously evolves based on business needs​.

  • Provides technical leadership both tactical (day to day activities) and strategic (big picture, vision).

  • Promotes and communicates across enterprise, platform, product teams and key stakeholders on technology and architectural standards, enterprise objectives and transformational roadmaps.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar discipline

  • Demonstrated strong understanding of Public cloud service offerings (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS services as well product offerings from Azure) and Infrastructure as Software (Container Orchestration, Observability, CI/CD)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering best-practices, DevOps, API, Microservices etc.

Technical Depth:

  • Demonstrated strong systems thinking and strategic thinking skills. Ability to capture the key elements of a system into a simple abstraction that empowers good decisions.

  • Demonstrated experience in all phases of Software Development Lifecycle (plan, design, develop, test, release, maintain and support, decommission)

  • Demonstrated experience in modern data platform components such as the following: (Hadoop, Hive, Pig, Spark, Python, Scala, etc)

  • Experience working with business and IT teams on initiatives that include data science, predictive analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning is required.

  • Knowledge and experience in creating highly performing architecture to support data analytics and data science is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Modern data architectures (e.g. event driven architectures, data democratization, platform approaches to support ML/AI at scale, stream processing, and integrating real time analytics into applications)

  • Recognized as an innovative developer and/or implementer of technical solutions with demonstrations of ingenuity, innovation and creative solutions, and not simply “new” technology.

  • Applies advanced principals, theories and concepts where creative, innovative and imaginative thinking is required.

  • Demonstrated experience in modern API platform design including how modern UI’s are built consuming services / APIs.

Leadership Influence:

  • Demonstrated ability to work with leaders in both the IT Function and the business to understand business strategies and shape technology roadmaps to support those strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and is highly collaborative.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguous settings and drive clarity and alignment across business & IT stakeholders and employees.

Relocation Options:
