This position is for an experienced Exploration Earth Scientist who will focus on the assessment of worldwide petroleum basins for potential Chevron participation and ultimately the addition of new test areas. The role requires a detailed knowledge of regional through prospect scale interpretation, volume determination and a sound understanding of geological risk definition. The Global Exploration and New Ventures group works closely with Operating Company and Business Unit New Ventures teams as well as Business Development organizations.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Technical Skills: Experience working Exploration New Ventures projects, ideally throughout multiple basins. The candidate should have 18 to 25 years of Oil and Gas industry experience and needs to have demonstrated strength in the evaluation of new ventures opportunities. Technical Skills- knowledge of processes & methodologies utilized in exploration new ventures, including basin interpretation, play-common risk segment mapping and risking, and awareness of the economic prioritization of opportunities. The role will greatly benefit from an ability to quickly develop sound geologic integrated interpretations supported by interrogation of published literature, technical reports, potential field, well, outcrop and sparse 2D & 3D seismic information. Broadly skilled seismic interpreter with recent experience in regional exploration or prospect maturation. Ability to derive and integrate geologic trends from data and apply them to regional exploration regional evaluations. Strong mapping skills, including ability and willingness to produce interpretations in challenging data areas and various depositional environments. Demonstrated competence in exploration workflows and petroleum system characterization. An ability to integrate various forms of geological and geophysical data and articulate a compelling play or prospect narrative is necessary to motivate action. Must be able to work at different scales, developing play-based products for screening and ranking and detailed prospect evaluation culminating in quality assurance and management presentations.
Exploration Processes and Tools: Strong knowledge of workstation interpretation systems and applications. Strong understanding of risk and resource assessment process. Experience in preparing and presenting evaluations for quality assurance processes that fully incorporates the outputs from Subject Matter Experts to produce a consistent and cohesive view of the opportunity. An overall knowledge of key exploration risk elements is critical.
Communication and Teamwork: Strong ability to work with key stakeholders and influence project direction and project management. Demonstrated ability to clearly convey concepts and objectives orally, in presentations and in technical reports, both to internal company stakeholders as well as externally. Well known for being a positive team member working in short deadline environments.
Leadership: The successful candidate will be known for their inclusive behaviors and ability to work within a cross-functional team in a constructive manner. Leadership skills and ability to mentor early career employees on concept development, prospect maturation, regional evaluation, and a variety of exploration workflows are key. Applies Organizational Performance principles and behavior to create a learn and improve mindset.
Required Qualifications:
MS or higher in the earth sciences
18 to 25 years of industry experience
