Overview:

This position serves as a Labor Relations professional for Chevron’s Global Enterprise. Responsibilities include developing and providing labor relations (LR) philosophy, strategy and consulting to corporate departments and operating companies.

  • Provide strategic guidance and hands on assistance: for Operating Units to manage through complex labor relations issues; for contract negotiations; and for pro-active employee relations and organizing campaigns

  • Provide expert support in labor arbitrations and with government agencies (labor law/arbitral research, counsel, company lead advocate); provide labor relations counsel to operating units

  • Enhance organization’s labor relations competence through development and facilitation of labor relations training and mentorship

  • Act as guidance review or project team member to various compensation, disability management, and other HR project teams

  • Participate in external labor relations forums to enhance learning and lead corporate wide information and best practice sharing across the organization

  • Monitor labor relations trends, developments and cases

  • Influence and change management skills: ability to maintain an enterprise perspective; offers creative solutions to workplace issues; demonstrated ability to successfully facilitate resolution of complex interpersonal conflict; is not intimidated in difficult situations; credibly provides counsel using data and relevant facts.

  • Conduct investigations, compose responses to government agency employment charges (e.g., NLRB), and facilitate conflict resolution, as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of 10 years demonstrated experience in labor relations

  • Demonstrated understanding of LR practices to enable business effectiveness

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to perform complex legal research, data analysis, develop business plans and prepare communications to executive management

  • Ability to work collaboratively and build positive/effective business partnerships

  • Ability to remain objective and open-minded in all situations

  • Demonstrated combination of assertiveness, poise, sensitivity and tact leading to high credibility and ability to persuade

  • Understands when to engage other resources such as the Law Department and other resources

  • Occasional travel required – approximately 25% of the time

  • Subject Matter Expert - Demonstrated understanding of LR practices to enable business effectiveness; Demonstrated ability to perform data and analytical analysis, develop business plans and prepare communications for senior management; Experience providing expert LR counsel to managers-supervisors in areas of policy, contract administration, grievance process and resolution, discipline counsel, supporting labor arbitrations and with government agencies (legal research, counsel, company lead advocate), extensive experience with the collective bargaining process; extensive experience with managing union organizing campaigns

  • Analytical Skills and Resourcefulness - Ability to synthesize information from various sources to arrive at credible, alternative recommendations. A strategic thinker with attention to detail; logical; uses data and trends to support recommendations and measure effectiveness; considers business and legal factors; sees the big picture.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Industrial Relations, HR or related field; J.D. if pertinent to LR experience (please note: this is not an attorney position)

  • First chair experience with the collective bargaining process and arbitration

  • Management of organizing campaigns
