Geologist responsible for (conventional, unconventional, and carbonate) petrology, integration and interpretation of thins section and SEM images, basic reservoir characterization, and final reporting to address business objectives for a variety of asset classes.
The Rock Properties Team Senior Technical Geologist / Petrology holds the primary responsibility of collaborating with various business unit asset teams to plan and develop a robust integrated analytical programs.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Collection and interpretation of petrology data focused on enhanced reservoir characterization
Integrating various core analysis and petrographic information to generate geologic/reservoir models
Writing, sharing, and publishing technical petrology reports
Acquiring and interpreting high quality, high resolution digital images (such as Zeiss ‘AxioScan’)
Reporting through and actively maintaining Chevron’s cloud-based solution for archiving and sharing the image mosaics
Growing digital capabilities in microscopy: maintain a growth mindset for continuous development of novel digital imaging and analytical techniques to address needs of our stakeholders.
Link digital workflows to advance research and development efforts that enable automated reported of key rock parameters (i.e.: grain size, pore size, and pore connectivity).
Functional and Technical Support for our internal core analysis system of record, Rockapedia, serving on the data steward team (DST), and working toward final development of a cloud-based integrated, centralized Data Management Enterprise System to address the core analysis data needs for all our business unit partners.
Business Owner/OPCO contact for external Oracle database RAPID housing Chevron proprietary core analysis data. Assume responsibility for service provider and client interactions to sustain accessibility and implementing and testing upgrades.
MS or PhD in Geology.
Focused experience with detailed 2D and 3D image analysis, petrographic studies, & rock typing.
Experience in basic reservoir characterization methods and principles leveraging standard laboratory methods including X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, optical microscopy, and image analysis techniques.
Experience in performing integrated core-log reservoir characterization studies for facies identification and reservoir quality determination.
Basic understanding of routine core analysis methods, including Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure, Conventional and Unconventional Routine Core Analysis to characterize pore systems and types, textural components, and potential formation damage contributors within rock fabric.
Ability to link porosity, permeability, and saturation (PKS) data to log and core descriptions for reservoir characterization, formation damage potential, and other advanced interpretive studies
Minimum 5 years of industry experience
Experience in clastic stratigraphy, basin framework, structural geology with fundamental understanding of conventional, unconventional, and carbonate reservoirs.
Experience with downhole log interpretation and data science with a focus on geostatistics, cluster analysis & classification.
Practical knowledge of experience with Raman Spectroscopy for characterization of pore systems and types, and textural components within rock fabric.
Python coding (supervised and unsupervised learning methods) is preferred.
