Job Description:

We are looking for an Agile Release Train Engineer to join Chevron IT. Ideal candidates are passionate individuals who exemplify high performing behaviors and share our vision of bringing Agile/Scrum and the power of new ways of working and solutions to IT and internal business partners. The Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Trains (ART) across multiple product lines, consisting of multiple Scrum teams.

The RTEs facilitate the ART events & processes for multiple product lines, think strategically about how best to deliver value for the overall platform and assist teams in delivering that value, and coach/guide other RTE’s on other product lines within the platform. RTEs communicate with stakeholders, remove barriers, escalate impediments where applicable, help manage risk, and drive relentless improvement for ARTs. RTEs establish and communicate the cadence of iterations and Program Increments (PIs). RTEs facilitate the PI planning event, and other ceremonies such as the ART Sync and demos.

The successful candidate for this position will be supporting digital platforms such as Surface, IT Foundation, Subsurface, HSE, Law, Finance. The RTE will have previous Scrum experience, strong facilitation, and stakeholder engagement experience. Many also participate in the Scrum coaching of leaders, teams, Product Owners and Scrum Masters in the new processes and agile mindset. They help configure documenting best practices to support the OC development around Scrum. RTEs can progress to Solution Train Engineers or other IT roles in delivering new technologies and processes to Chevron IT.


  • Facilitate the ART events and processes and assist teams in delivering value.

  • Summarize PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency.

  • Assist in tracking the execution of features and capabilities and improve the flow of value

  • Provide coaching, guidance and coordination with other RTE’s working within the same platform

  • Communicate with stakeholders, escalate impediments, help manage risk, and drive relentless improvement

  • Able to think strategically about how to deliver business value across the overall platform

  • Able to create and maintain dashboards and queries that makes information visible for decision making

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently on a career break of 18 months or longer

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT or business-related discipline

  • 3+ years as a Scrum Master

  • 1-2+ years as an Agile Release Train Engineer

  • Prior experience managing Agile Release Trains using the scaled agile SAFe Framework

  • Strong facilitation, and stakeholder engagement experience

  • Ability to coach and guide other RTE’s working within the platform

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Scrum Master certification(s)

  • SAFe certification(s)

  • Experience managing Sprint and/or Kanban boards using Azure DevOps or similar work management tool

  • Previous experience with ADO, risk management, and dependency management

  • Understanding of incremental delivery/release management and knowledge of multiple business domains
