Chevron Corporation Machinist Maintenance Mechanic in Pascagoula, Mississippi

Machinist Maintenance Mechanics must be capable and skilled in all aspects of the machinist craft. Candidates must be knowledgeable of industrial pump repair, industrial compressor repair, and operating machine shop equipment. Candidates will be required to successfully demonstrate the ability to climb heights up to 200 feet and successfully satisfy confined space entry testing. Successful candidates will be expected to progress through the Pascagoula Formal Maintenance Training Program within 3 years of their hire date.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Troubleshooting, disassembly, inspection, repair and assembly of industrial pumps, industrial compressors and steam turbines

  • Rotating equipment removal and installations to include alignment using reverse alignment and laser alignment

  • Operating outside machinery to include operation of portable machine equipment

  • Reading machinery and rotating equipment drawings and documenting the readings

  • Operating manual machine shop equipment, including lathe, milling machines, boring machines, balancing machines, drill presses, etc.

  • Using precision measuring instruments in field and shop environments.

  • Performing other incidental craft work, e.g., fabrication, machinery, etc. in order to complete job.

  • Organizing, planning and executing daily work assignments.

  • Following routine duties, safe work practices and demonstrating safe work behaviors.

  • Working with other functional departments such as Reliability, Operations and Engineering on a daily basis.

  • The position will typically work a 4x10 dayshift work schedule.

  • Typical shifts are Monday - Thursday but can vary based on work needs.

  • Occasional shift work and overtime is required. The position can also be called out after normal work hours as needed.

  • Work associated with this position typically involves working outdoors year-round.

  • This position requires driving on a routine basis.

    Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Basic computer skills

  • Minimum of 2 years work experience (Military service is considered work experience) or completed an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Precision Manufacturing with hours in Mechanical Maintenance from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College or Associate of Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Maintenance with 1 semester in Precision Manufacturing from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College or Technical Certificate in Precision Manufacturing with 1 semester in Mechanical Maintenance from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College or Technical Certificate in Mechanical Maintenance with hours in Precision Manufacturing from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of an Internship at the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery as a Machinist Intern or formalized apprenticeship training program..

  • Certificate in Precision Manufacturing or Mechanical Maintenance from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

  • Relevant machinery trade school endorsed by the Central Gulf Industrial Alliance (CGIA), military or formalized training program graduate.

  • Completed formalized apprenticeship training program.

  • Minimum of 5 years inside machinists or outside machinery/millwright experience


If selected to participate in the Chevron IAB on-line test, you will be required to take the following battery of tests:

Industrial Information Test

Measures the ability to read, understand, and use information in graphs, charts, tables, and written passages to solve problems.

Mechanical Aptitude Assessment

Measures the ability to apply general mechanical principles to understand and solve problem situations.

Workplace Attitude and Behavior Inventory

Measures personal characteristics important to success in the job applied for.

You will be immediately directed to the testing portal upon submittal of your application, at which point you will have 72 hours to complete the on-line assessment. The duration of the assessment is approximately 2 hours. The assessment can also be accessed from your Chevron profile under “Job Management” or via the link sent to your email.

Your assessment score will be valid for 365 days from the day you complete your on-line assessment.

Chevron's tests are focused on industrial aptitudes. However, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test preparation guides may be helpful in preparation for these tests. Candidates should focus on mechanical aptitude, reading comprehension, understanding information in tables and graphs, and understanding industrial math.
