Chevron is seeking a Relief Systems Engineer to provide support for the Small Capital Projects Group at the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery. Chevron is committed to maintaining a high level of technical expertise in the downstream organization to maintain an industry leading position in safe, reliable and profitable operation of its refineries. This position will report to the Small Capital Projects Group and will work closely with combined Chevron and Third Party Engineering Contractor project teams to ensure appropriate relief system designs / modifications are implemented during projects.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to the following:
Support all phases of Small Capital Projects; this will include, but is not limited to, alternative selections, hazard reviews, scoping, equipment specification and purchases, implementation and project close out activities
Review process piping / equipment overpressure scenarios, calculations and proposed alternatives provided by the project team(s)
Responsible for the review and approval of engineering contractor deliverables, some of which include PFD’s, P&ID’s, spec sheets, etc.
Ensure adherence to the Chevron Engineering Standards (CES), Chevron Manufacturing Standards plus any other applicable industry standards and practices
Work in collaboration with specialists and engineers of other project team disciplines
Network with subject matter experts in other facilities to leverage shared expertise
Provide requested technical advice and recommendations to the project team within the required time frame
Bachelor degree in Engineering
Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in oil, gas, petrochemicals or comparable industries
Solid understanding of process design fundamentals with respect to relief systems, including, overpressure scenario identification and PSV sizing via API 520/521 methodology; pipe sizing and hydraulic calculations; pipe pressure and temperature rating; control valve sizing; and heat exchanger rating
Strong working knowledge of P&ID and PFD development
Fundamental understanding of column systems, pump and compressor operation and performance
Experience running steady state process simulation tools such as PRO/II or HYSYS
Process safety / risk fundamentals experience - participating in HAZOP's, PHA's, etc.
Experience developing protected system sketches
Ability to effectively work in multi-discipline groups
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to lead discussions on technical topics and drive work groups to decisions
Competency in flare system hydraulic analysis
Familiarity with PSV/flare dispersion modeling
Performing relief calculations using Siemen's PS-PPM software
Experience ensuring Chevron Engineering Standards and Chevron Relief Business Improvement Network requirements are met for project designs
Working knowledge of various refinery process technologies
Working knowledge of HTRI heat exchanger modeling software
Exposure to dynamic simulations
Familiarity with transient tube rupture analysis
Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.
