Chevron Corporation Designs Engineer - Turnarounds in Perth, Australia

Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer – Turnarounds to join the Technical Projects team. Reporting to the Turnaround Support Coordinator, this permanent role will be based in Perth with occasional travel to site as required.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage the development and execution of minor design changes within Turnarounds through phases 2 to 4, including; development of business plans, study/execution schedules, cost, time and resource estimates, procurement and subcontracting plans, progress monitoring, stakeholder engagement and alignment, production of engineering deliverables, key decision sheets/decision support packages, regular and ad-hoc reporting/presentations, management of change (MOC), field implementation, and field validation of initiative outcomes

  • Demonstrate business and commercial acumen, including a clear understanding of asset priorities and competitive performance targets, and the ability to influence diverse stakeholders

  • Application of broad experience as a design engineer within a complex process facility (major refinery or equivalent), with specific experience in supporting Turnarounds, utilising appropriate facility design and construction, MOC and capital stewardship principles to ensure decision quality and superior scope delivery through all phases

  • Effectively manage and control change

  • Maintain effective communications with cross-functional stakeholders (Operations, Turnaround, Technical and Energy Technology Company teams) in order to assess and minimise the impact of proposed design/procedural modifications, schedule changes, technical interface issues, and budget/cost changes

  • Promote the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture by obtaining any required training, promoting IIF values, complying with procedures and actively living the IIF culture

  • Demonstrate a value chain mindset and a track record of championing "One team" thinking and driving cross-functional/team collaboration in a multi-disciplinary environment

  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing business priorities, and progress work scopes to agreed outcomes in a timely manner

  • Commitment to health, environment and safety and Chevron best practices

Key skills and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering

  • Significant and broad experience in a design engineer capacity on a complex process facility (e.g. major refinery or equivalent) with specific experience in supporting Turnarounds

  • Demonstrate business and commercial acumen, including a clear understanding of asset priorities and competitive performance targets and the ability to influence diverse stakeholders

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop compelling business cases for Brownfield modifications in a capital constrained environment within a complex process facility (major refinery or equivalent)

  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong influencing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and build key relationships that contribute to high-class business results
