Chevron Corporation Senior Corrosion and Welding Engineer in Perth, Australia

Chevron Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Corrosion and Welding Engineer to join the Fixed Equipment Integrity team. Reporting to the Fixed Equipment Integrity Team Lead, this permanent role will be based in Perth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide subject matter expert support for technical materials, corrosion and welding

  • Lead and maintain oversight of materials, corrosion and welding issues and manage associated costs across assets

  • Prioritise work within the materials and corrosion group and ensure work is executed on time and with excellence

  • Ensure facilities engineering work tracking processes are used for tracking and managing all applicable work scopes

  • Act as the Integrity Management Expert group champion, within a cross-functional team, and empower the implementation of mitigating and corrective actions

  • Lead and develop the identification of degradation threats and barriers for input in risk-based inspection programs and ensure risks are accurately represented

  • Monitor outputs from the Integrity Operating Window (IOW) program, establishing risk mitigation actions as appropriate and reporting findings and actions to key stakeholders

  • Identify and resolve gaps in the IOW system

  • Develop and own asset strategies and corrosion management plans

  • Provide technical advice on corrosion issues related to regulatory compliance and safety

  • Provide technical support in the assessment of anomalies and fitness for service assessments

  • Develop and implement temporary and permanent repair solutions in a timely manner

  • Provide specialist technical support for corrosion monitoring, management and mitigation, coatings and cathodic protection

  • Work across functional teams, including; production, maintenance, process engineering and systems engineering to ensure all corrosion risks are suitably mitigated, managed and communicated at all levels

  • Commitment to health, environment and safety and Chevron best practices

    Key skills and experience required:

  • Minimum 10 years’ work experience in materials, corrosion and welding support, working on operating oil and gas assets

  • Minimum of 10 years’ work experience in welding (including weld procedure development, weld procedure selection, review and approval)

  • Experience across design, construction and operations phases of onshore and offshore assets, experience working on complex process facilities and subsea pipelines strongly preferred

  • Experience in integrity management (risk-based inspection plan development and implementation, an understanding of the practical use and application of non-destructive testing methods, assessment of inspection results)

  • Experience in corrosion monitoring, mitigation and management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of materials, corrosion and welding engineers

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with management, site-based operations and engineers, internal and external stakeholders as well as drive for change

  • Proven ability to problem solve technical issues and communicate solutions with all levels

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and build key relationships that contribute to high-class business results
