Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Research Assistant located in Richmond, CA through August 22, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).
The Research Assistant in this position is primarily responsible for conducting laboratory performance tests of lubricants and additives, and analyzing and presenting their results. Performance tests include oxidation stability, deposit-forming tendency, friction and wear performance, and rheology. Analyses may include microscopy, spectroscopy, and titration.
The Research Associate will work with Lead Chemists and Scientists in the Component Performance and Fundamental Testing Team to execute test plans, using a mix of laboratory skills depending on project business needs. The position requires management of multiple simultaneous projects, collaboration in a team environment, and communication of status and results in an agreed-upon, timely manner.
Candidate must maintain a high degree of independence and responsibility, reliability and accountability in planning, conducting and reporting results of laboratory experiments. Candidate must maximize productivity by routinely applying technical skills and experience, drawing on knowledge and skills of other experienced personnel, and communicating clearly and effectively with chemists/engineers. The position requires working approximately 90% of the time in a laboratory. This is a safety sensitive position.
- BS/BA degree in Chemistry (preferred) or related physical science
(Bachelor degrees in engineering will not be considered)
Demonstrated work experience (2+ years preferred) and technical competency in research or testing, experimental error control, and data interpretation, with exemplary safe work practices
Familiarity with laboratory protocols, prudent lab practices, organic chemistry, and physical/chemical analysis techniques
Demonstrated ability to effectively interface, consult and collaborate with other scientists in a team environment, and with service providers outside the organization
Demonstrated clear, direct and simple verbal and written communication of technical results in reports and presentations
Demonstrated track record of high-performance achievement of accurate results, by prioritization and planning of multiple tasks

Mechanical test equipment aptitude, laboratory equipment knowledge and equipment troubleshooting proficiency
Knowledge or experience of performance testing, especially of lubricants and additives
