Chevron Corporation Research Technician in Richmond, California

Chevron is accepting online applications for the position through November 7, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time).

The Research Technician position is intended for someone with laboratory experience in inorganic materials synthesis and characterization within the CMSE (Catalytic Materials Synthesis & Evaluation) team.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Catalyst preparation and testing using a variety of reactor types

  • General wet chemistry methods, handling of hazardous chemicals, and use of glassware/instruments for experiments

  • Product characterization (such as XRD, SEM, ICP) and basic analytical testing

  • Operates synthesis/testing equipment that may work at elevated temperature/pressure

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized lab meeting all safety and environmental regulations

  • Keeping chemical inventory accordingly

  • Maintain data records and laboratory notebooks of sufficient quality to support processes transfer, scale-up, and intellectual property protection and patent applications

  • Report data in written and oral reports, including data presentations in tabulated and graphical formats

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or associated disciplines with a specialty in inorganic materials synthesis and characterization

  • 3 to 5 years of background in laboratory experimental work and basic laboratory skills in the areas of inorganic and organic chemistry

  • Good understanding of general laboratory wet chemistry methods

  • Good understanding of pressure/temperature synthesis experiments, including autoclaves

  • Ability to work with complex tasks, complex projects, and multiple tasks at the same time

  • Good computer skills are required – competent in standard Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

  • Ability to devise experimental protocols and conduct laboratory and bench-scale research

  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate research activities with other internal and external researchers

  • Ability to identify and propose new research and technology development ideas in collaboration with other researchers and operations and engineering personnel

  • Must be able to interface with other skill sets within research and project teams and effectively integrate key models and data in a timely manner to support team activities and decisions

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills

  • Strong reporting/analytical skills.

  • Candidate should have a demonstrated ability to work within a diverse work team.
