The Senior Research & Development Technician reports to the Technical Team Lead, Viscosity Modifier based in Richmond, California within Chevron Oronite Global Technology. The Research Technician will provide technical support for current viscosity modifier business and expand the product line through advancement of fundamental knowledge and development of new products. The technician will work under guidance of a team of research scientist/engineer to execute testing and laboratory studies. The technician is expected to develop or possess a reasonable understanding and working knowledge of hands-on laboratory methods, chemical materials handling, and scientific principles for the purpose of generating reliable, reproducible, and meaningful data and supporting team initiatives. The technician will be responsible for maintaining prudent laboratory practices while handling polymer and/or chemical materials and engaging in multi-tasking activities.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Generate/blend viscosity modifier concentrates and formulated oils,

  • Run and maintain laboratory testing equipment,

  • Coordinate internal and external testing of samples, and

  • Collect, compile, organize, summarize, and effectively communicate technical results/data while documenting findings in laboratory notebooks or other forms of technical records.

  • Hands-on laboratory operations involving base oils, solvents oils and chemical additives.

  • The technician also engages, influences and builds working relationships within and outside the team. The technician manages multiple initiatives and/or tasks simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines.

  • The position may require performing lifting and handling heavy boxes of samples.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or related areas. (Science, chemistry or engineering degree).

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory experience preferred, executing laboratory studies on viscosity modifiers, polymers and formulated oils to support the product line growth strategy and address customer, manufacturing, or quality issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft products. Leverages software productivity tools such as MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint

  • Strong self-starter who works without close supervision

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Demonstrates strong teamwork.

  • Communicates in a clear concise, understandable manner both orally and in writing.

Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $ $76,200 – $ $134,000 .
