Chevron Corporation Commercial Analyst - NGL in Singapore, Singapore

Position summary:

The Commercial Analyst role supports Asia Pacific Gas Supply & Trading (GSAT), specifically Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), in conducting market and fundamental analysis that provides commercial insights and recommendations for our NGLs trading business.

Expected to be a role that will allow the incumbent to progressively get a wider and deeper understanding of the GSAT business and develop skills and knowledge over time that would make them suitable for many other roles and career paths within GSAT and with the wider Business & Commercial function.

The Commercial Analyst reports to GSAT Commercial Business Manager; and works closely with the NGLs Traders, Finance and IT teams.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with the analysis of market fundamentals and pricing structures, trade flows, competitor production profiles and other industry information to support trading efforts

  • Creates and maintain applicable models/ tools to monitor market drivers (e.g., infrastructure, flows, supply/ demand, refinery production) to support trading strategies

  • Supports the Traders’ deal economics with a focus on optionality, trading lookbacks and accuracy of market calls/ price forecasts

  • Assists with the preparation of presentation materials, participate in discussions on fundamentals with a broader team of traders, other analysts providing key market data and analysis that help the team to formulate view on market direction

  • Partners with other trading teams and analysts across the organisation to share information, develop short term market views, facilitate analytical process improvements, and identify additional opportunities

  • Establish a network of contacts to enhance market intelligence and leverage these data sources to improve analyses and generate insights

  • Assists in the preparation of the Global Commodity Business Plan, including documenting strategies, targets and assigned activities

  • Performs look-back on trading performance and accuracy of market calls and price forecasts

  • Participates or leads commercial projects where required

  • Drives or participates in global and regional digital analytics projects or initiatives

  • Supports traders, originator in developing new business ventures and identify opportunities to grow the trading portfolio

  • Aligns and inspires team members by mentoring and providing guidance to the NGL Intern

    Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree holder

  • 1-3 years of working experience preferably in Oil & Gas Industry, Trading or Market data analytics related role

  • Understanding of commodity markets and trade flows, and the use of data to understand market dynamics is desirable

  • Analytical – demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze data sets and use economic models to test sensitivities and identify key value drivers all with minimal direction. Proficient with analytical modeling tools, such as Excel, Power BI, etc. Knowledge of VBA and DAX, or other programming skills will be a plus.

  • Communication and Presentation – ability to organize and summarize key information and able to leverage analytical, communication and presentation skills to influence and achieve optimum decisions.

  • Teamwork – demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment and as an individual contributor.

  • Business Acumen - firm understanding of commercial discipline and market activities (e.g., commercial/trading acumen). Demonstrated ability to utilize decision analysis tools and processes to evaluate multiple options for solutions or proposals.

  • Some degree of business travel will be expected.

    Relocation Options:

    Relocation will not be considered within Chevron parameters.

    International Considerations:

    Selected candidate will work in Singapore under the local payroll system and benefits.
