The Trade Compliance Analyst position focuses on ensuring adherence with company policy and procedures as they relate to International Trade (export, import, sanctions) and Anti-Boycott Laws.
The selected individual will be expected to clearly and effectively interpret, communicate, guide, and where appropriate, influence business units on a wide variety of transactions or dealings that trigger international trade or antiboycott compliance requirements.
The position will be expected to partner with the business unit compliance coordinator to ensure that appropriate processes for international trade and antiboycott are implemented by the business unit.
The position is expected to develop a deep understanding of the business unit’s export and import activities, including an awareness of any Free Trade Agreements used by the business operations.
The position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical capabilities, good judgment in identifying issues and elevating to counsel as may be necessary, a willingness to learn new compliance procedures, and to be a leader in advocating for trade compliance.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Serves as primary point of contact for supported business unit personnel needing guidance on trade compliance requirements to include import, export, sanctions and antiboycott compliance
Collaborates with the Regional Compliance Analysts to establish and help deploy appropriate compliance procedures
Provides guidance and assistance for the classification of products, software and data for import and export
Makes preliminary assessment of potential licensing needs based on the classification of items
Provides clearance authorization for transfers of goods, software and data
As requested by the Regional Compliance Manager or Compliance Analysts, provides training/presentations to impacted personnel within the business unit or to leadership
Assists with the oversight of the business unit’s freight forwarders and customs brokers
Provides guidance on the reporting requirements for antiboycott compliance, including the use of the automated Corporate antiboycott reporting tool
Assists the business unit with reporting requirements for the automated Iranian Transactions Reporting tool
Consistent with business unit processes, partners with compliance coordinator to assist the business unit with the third-party sanctions screening and/or due diligence processes, providing sanctions clearances consistent with guidance provided by counsel
Reviews, and provides guidance to the business for all network access requests working closely with counsel
Conducts initial review of contracts which seek modifications to trade compliance clauses and provide an assessment of the changes as well as a proposal for further modification, working closely with trade counsel
Maintains records as required by the Chevron Retention policy
Works closely with Compliance Law and timely escalate any potential, perceived or actual violations or issues reported by the business units
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Management or MBA
Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar capacity
Strong knowledge in trade compliance process, procedures, and controls (import/Customs, exports, anti-money laundering, trade sanctions, etc)
Experience in the energy, oil services, global supplier, and / or banking industry
This position may require flexible work hours to communicate with personnel in supported business units in a variety of time zones.
Selected candidate will be part of Corporate Compliance. Compliance requests are not predictable, and the candidate should be prepared to quickly adjust to business needs for the supported BU’s.
The candidate will be part of a team of analysts and may be asked to assist a colleague with another business unit as project or special circumstances warrant.
There may be project opportunities to expand learning of other subject areas.
